Adam Lambert Brings Darkness to Glee With "I Believe in a Thing Called Love"

Could 2014 be the year of glam god Adam Lambert? It certainly seems like it could be! From welcomed news about his upcoming third studio album being released sometime this year to his recent guest judging stint on the season six premiere episode of RuPaul's Drag Race, from the soon-to-be speculated announcement of a U.S. tour with the legendary Queen to his buzzworthy role as Elliot "Starchild" Gilbert on the critically-acclaimed Glee, it looks as things are moving for the former American Idol runner up.

While Adam Lambert did become the first openly gay artist to score a number one album in the U.S. with 2012's well-received Trespassing, a vast departure from his glam-rock debut, sales for the record did not match those of its predecessor. Only three singles, "Better Than I Know Myself", "Never Close Our Eyes" and the title track, were released from the effort. None made a huge impact on the charts as they should have. Future plans for the album were put off indefinitely and Lambert only toured with the project internationally. After a few months of laying low, the Grammy-nominated singer is roaring back with a vengeance.

With Glee returning to TV after a long hiatus, it means fans of the ever-entertaining Glambert get to see the talented act perform another glorious cover. This past episode's song of choice? The infamous "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness alongside Kurt aka Chris Colfer. While shopping for guitars during the episode entitled "Frenemies", Adam and Chris burst into a fun, carefree rendition of The Darkness' hit song and immediately steal the thunder from the rest of the cast.

The scene is a pure rock and roll moment, looks as if the two guys had a blast filming, but the power lies in the actual vocal performance of the song. "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" can be a tricky track to cover, one with high notes and bizarre change ups, but Lambert seems to tackle the track successfully, especially during the chorus of "I believe in a thing called love, just listen to the rhythm of my heart". Chris does a pretty impressive job himself, holding his own when up against the vocal powerhouse that is Lambert.

Just when you think things could not get any better, Adam belts out some crazy notes towards the end to finish the attention-grabbing performance with positive results. I may not be a huge fan of Glee, I have only watched episodes when Lady Gaga tracks are being covered, but I have been slightly addicted to Adam's role as Starchild in these recent episodes. It appears things are about to get really juicy. Maybe a Starchild/Kurt love affair? One can only dream!

Do yourself a favor and watch the "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" performance below. You won't regret that you did. Is this the attention and exposure Adam needs to ensure a successful third album release? We can only hope!

...And because it is true perfection, take another look at Adam completely killing "Marry The Night" by Lady Gaga in his Glee debut performance. May have even sang it better than Mother Monster herself. Sorry!
